A Christmas Carol Trip

On the 8th and 9th Dec 2022, 26 students mostly from Yr10 GCSE Drama classes attended 2 nights’ residential trip to Stratford-upon-Avon. The students began with a workshop lead by an actor in the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) looking at plot, themes and characterisation of A Christmas Carol. They rehearsed and acted out a scene between Scrooge and The Ghost of Christmas Present.  It was great to see so many interpretations of the same script and student’s confidence grow with understanding the story.

In the evening we saw the sold out production of A Christmas Carol with Adrian Edmondson playing Ebenezer Scrooge! This was enjoyed by everyone and again students understanding of the story has increased.

The next day we visited Shakespeare’s Birthplace museum, where students got to see and understand the life and times of Shakespeare, even seeing the cot that Shakespeare was placed in as a baby!

In the afternoon students were able to go around the Victorian Christmas Market. The evening was spent in Zizzi’s enjoying either Pizza or Pasta and some very delicious puddings!

Finally, the students finished the trip with a Ghost walk around Stratford_upon_avon! There were a few jumpy moments as we heard all about the gruesome history that has happened in the city.

This trip was such a huge success that we plan to run it again next year!
