Year 11 Geography Fieldtrip to the New Forest

Yesterday, our Year 11 Geography students ventured out to the beautiful New Forest to complete an important part of their GCSE course – their physical geography fieldwork. The trip focused on river studies, giving students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.

Throughout the day, students worked in groups to carry out detailed river surveys, measuring width, depth, velocity, and bedload size at several points along the river. This hands-on experience not only helped them to develop key data collection skills but also deepened their understanding of river processes and how they shape the landscape.

Despite a forecast of showers, we were fortunate to dodge the rain, making for a productive and enjoyable day of learning outdoors. Students showed great teamwork, enthusiasm, and resilience while working in the field.

This trip marks an important milestone in their GCSE preparation, as the data collected will be used for their upcoming fieldwork analysis and evaluation. A big thank you to the Geography department staff for organising the trip and to all students for their fantastic effort!
