Our motivated Year 10 business students at Redbridge are taking significant steps to prepare for their future careers through a series of mock interviews. The initiative aims to equip students with essential skills and confidence needed in today’s competitive job market.
During the past week, students participated in mock interviews, simulating real-world scenarios and role playing both the interviewer and the interviewee. Each student brought a clipboard filled with questions, taking turns to showcase their responses in a professional way.
Sample Questions and Answers from the Mock Interviews:
- Question:Can you tell me about yourself and your interests?
- Answer: “I’m a Year 10 student with a strong interest in marketing and entrepreneurship. I enjoy creating social media content and have even started a small online business selling handmade crafts. I’m passionate about learning how to connect with customers and understand market trends.”
- Question:Why do you want to work in this industry?
- Answer: “I believe that the business world is constantly evolving, and I find it exciting to be part of that change. I want to work in marketing because it combines creativity with strategy, allowing me to express my ideas while also analyzing data to understand consumer behavior.”
- Question:How do you handle challenges or setbacks?
- Answer: “I approach challenges with a positive mindset. For example, when I faced difficulties with a group project, I initiated open communication to address our issues. This not only helped us find solutions but also strengthened our teamwork.”
- Question:What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Answer: “One of my strengths is my ability to work well in teams; I’m a good listener and enjoy collaborating with others. A weakness I’m working on is public speaking. I’ve started practicing in front of small groups to build my confidence.”
- Question:Where do you see yourself in five years?
- Answer: “In five years, I see myself in a university studying business management, gaining experience through internships, and hopefully working in a marketing role where I can apply what I’ve learned and continue to grow.”
The mock interviews not only help students build confidence but also provide invaluable insights into the expectations of the business world. Redbridge School’s business teacher Mr Flynn emphasised the importance of these experiences. “We want to give our students a taste of what they can expect in their future careers, and feedback from professionals is a crucial part of that learning process.”
As these Year 10 students continue their education, initiatives like this prepare them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, proving that practical experience is just as important as academic knowledge.
