Every term, during our dedicated iSpeak week, our teachers incorporate structured oracy activities that develop students’ speaking and listening abilities across the curriculum. Students engage in four key practices: talking in full sentences to build articulate responses, ‘turn and talk’ partnerships that encourage collaborative discussion, structured talk activities that develop reasoned arguments, and choral reading to build confidence and fluency. Teachers model effective speaking techniques and provide constructive feedback, helping students master essential skills like maintaining eye contact, using appropriate pace and volume, and adapting their language for different audiences. This systematic approach to oracy ensures our students develop the communication skills vital for academic success and their future careers.
