KS3 Subject Intent
The overall intent of Psychology to give students broad knowledge in the scientific study of mind and behaviour. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, including feelings and thoughts. It is an academic discipline of immense scope, crossing the boundaries between the natural and social sciences. We aim to give students an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, linking the discipline to neuroscience.
KS4 Subject Intent
Our course in Psychology is designed to inspire and engage learners by providing a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study which develops an understanding of the ideas and values that characterise ‘self’ and others. Learners will be equipped with a psychological literacy that enables them to apply their knowledge and skills in their everyday lives, including making informed decisions about further study and career choices.
In Psychology, students are encouraged to question the way humans think and behave. By exploring key topics in psychology, students are taught the skills necessary to be able to consider what makes humans human.
Teaching and learning in psychology is designed to enable students to utilise and develop a range of skills including practical research skills, extended writing, critical evaluation and data analysis. Activities will include research tasks, group projects and presentations, class discussion and creative thinking tasks.
