Our Passion for Animal Care at Redbridge
At Redbridge Community School, we are proud to place Animal Care at the heart of our community. We know that looking after animals not only benefits our much-loved pets, but also has a hugely positive impact on the wellbeing, confidence, and personal development of our students. Working with animals teaches responsibility, empathy, and resilience, while also offering moments of calm and joy during the school day.
We have a dedicated team of Guinea Pig Guardians and Dog Trainers who follow the correct care programmes to ensure all of our animals are treated with the love, respect, and attention they deserve. To recognise their commitment, our student carers are given their own Animal Care polo shirts, helping them to be easily identifiable around the school and providing them with everything they need to carry out their important roles.
Our Guinea Pig Guardians look after our guinea pigs in their own calm, spacious environment, complete with a cosy shed and outdoor runs for exercise. The guinea pigs are groomed, fed, cleaned, and socialised regularly, ensuring they are happy and healthy. Guided by our Science Technician, Lorraine House, the team gain valuable hands-on experience, caring for the animals before and after school and during break times. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn new skills and take on responsibility in a supportive and rewarding way.

Our Dog Trainers work in a safe, nurturing, and comfortable environment designed to support both our students and pets. We have recently enhanced our training area to ensure it is free from distractions, private, and visually inspiring. Custom vinyl panels along the fencing provide training tips and showcase personalised artwork, helping to create an informative and welcoming space. This environment allows students to engage with the dogs in a positive way, building their confidence while forming strong, caring bonds with the animals.

At Redbridge Community School, our Animal Care programme is about much more than looking after pets – it’s about giving students opportunities to grow, learn responsibility, and experience the wellbeing benefits that come from working with animals.
